I don’t like the word “miracle” but I thought it was catchy.

We know what a high carbohydrate diet does to us: just look around (everyone has pre-diabetes and heart disease), walk into a hospital (everyone is dying of lifestyle diseases), watch kids get off a bus (they are all overweight). But what would a high fat low carbohydrate diet do to us? Would it be beneficial? Does the body work well in Ketosis? Well below are some ideas of what a fat burning body can do.

Can a low-carb high-fat ketogenic diet help people with neurological diseases? In short, yes.

This article describes using a high fat diet for combating Parkinson’s Disease.

Many studies on rats and mice show increased improvement of bio-markers and health when on a high fat ketogenic diet.

  1. FAT is ANTI_INFLAMMATORY (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
  2. FAT helps protect cells against oxidative stress and apoptosis (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
  3. Burning Ketones, more specifically medium-chained triglycerides, makes you smarter (1, 2, 3)
  4. A low-carb ketogenic diet can reverse Type 2 Diabetes and manage Diabetes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
  5. Medium-Chained Triglycerides (MCT) are better than simple sugars (carbs) for prolonged exercise (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,)
  6. There is much much more but now it is up to you to find them…

I wonder what a VEGAN diet has helped heal or reverse any diseases?

I am not condoning everyone to be in KETOSIS at all times. But your body should be familiar with the state of ketosis. It is nothing to be scared of, in fact it should be a skill you can use. Carbohydrates do not need to be feared either. However, CERTAIN TYPES of carbohydrates should – wheat, grains, refined flours, candy, sugar, and dairy. If your carbs are from vegetables, fruit, and starches feel free to have a second helping. If you are trying to loose weight restrict as much carb intake as possible to see the best results quicker.

What kind of FAT doe you mean? Aren’t there different types of fat?

  • Yes, there are different types of fat. Very simply – stay away from vegetable oil and any refined processed oil. Any animal fat, ghee (clarified butter), coconut oil, and olive oil (don’t cook with this) is perfect. Canola, soy, sunflower, Crisco, Pam spray, etc should be avoided like the plague.

How does this coincide with “PALEO”?

  • It is well known, without opposition, that our ancestors, were in a state of ketosis most of the time since sugar, ice cream, and processed flours were non-existent and fruit was seasonal. What was there to eat? Starches similar to yucca root and yams (but not like white potatoes), vegetables (seasonal), nuts and seeds, animals and fish. Reading diaries of those with first contact with Native Americans and those that were captured and lived among them all had similar stories. Food was either scare or abundant. Meaning, there was sometimes an entire week without eating anything more than some pecans then after a kill they could eat like kings for weeks.
  • Eskimos have survived on a very high fat diet sourced from animals.

WARNING: If you are doing highly intensive exercise REGULARLY, like Crossfit, please eat more carbohydrates (from veggies, starches, and fruit) specifically directly after your workout. If you exercise more than 7 times a week you need to have a higher carbohydrate intake than a desk-couch warrior. This is for optimal performance, of course.

    Well done. If you calculate the amount of energy a body contains in stored glucose/glycogen vs stored fat, it becomes apparent that fat is a near endless supply of energy whereas glycogen is very limited.
